<P><b>PARK CITY, Utah</b> &#8212; The <a href="http://www.mtv.com/movies/sundance/index.jhtml">Sundance Film Festival</a> is no stranger to seeing masses of unexpected celebrities flocking to the snowy hills of Park City, but that didn't stop the surprise appearance of singer/songwriter Taylor Swift from attracting a crowd. The "Back to December" singer hit Sundance on Friday (January 20) to attend the red-carpet premiere of "Ethel," the HBO documentary chronicling the life of Ethel Kennedy. Indeed, a grand total of 23 members of the Kennedy clan were on hand, including the documentary's director Rory, daughter of Ethel. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:727210.id:1677636" width="240" height="211"></div><p> What exactly prompted Taylor's attendance at the "Ethel" red carpet? According to the musician herself in a recent interview with <a href="http://www.vogue.com/magazine/article/taylor-swift-the-single-life/#6" target="_blank"><i>Vogue,</i></a> Taylor had an encounter with the 83-year-old Ethel some weeks ago. Describing the woman as "effervescent," Taylor said the meeting with the wife of the late Robert Kennedy left her feeling "starstruck" for the first time in her life. "The only time in my life I have ever been starstruck was meeting Caroline and Ethel Kennedy," she told the magazine. "I got to spend the afternoon with Ethel a couple of weeks ago. She is one of my favorites, because you look back at the pictures of her and Bobby, and they always look like they are having the most fun out of everybody. You know, 11 kids, all these exotic animals on their property. I've read a lot about them." Taylor wasn't the only non-Kennedy who showed up to the "Ethel" red carpet. Sundance founder and legendary actor Robert Redford also hit the scene to show his appreciation and admiration for the project &#8212; and to pose for a few photos with Swift. <b>The 2012 <a href="http://www.mtv.com/movies/sundance/index.jhtml">Sundance Film Festival</a> is officially under way, and the <a href="http://www.mtv.com/movies/">MTV Movies</a> team is on the ground reporting on the hottest stars and the movies everyone will be talking about in the year to come. Keep it locked with <a href="http://www.mtv.com/movies/">MTV Movies</a> for everything there is to know about Sundance.</b></p>

Demi Moore Replaced By Sarah Jessica Parker In 'Lovelace'

Mary-Louise Parker not stepping in as Gloria Steinem in the Linda Lovelace biopic, as had been reported.

A report from Us Weekly on Friday (January 27) claimed that "Weeds" star Mary-Louise Parker was stepping in to replace Demi Moore in "Lovelace." However, according to a press release, a different Parker — Sarah Jessica Parker — will step in for Moore as Gloria Steinem in the Linda Lovelace biopic.

Moore dropped out of the film earlier this week after being hospitalized for "exhaustion," and the search for her replacement began soon afterward. The film, which is currently filming in Los Angeles, stars Amanda Seyfried as the famous 1970s porn star.

On Thursday, actress Chloë Sevigny joined the cast of "Lovelace" as a journalist, sparking speculation that she could be the one to replace Moore. When sources confirmed to Us Weekly that Mary-Louise Parker would take the role of Steinem, this no longer appeared to be the case. Hours after Us' initial report, the film's directors, Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman ("Howl"), confirmed with Entertainment Weekly that Sarah Jessica Parker was Moore's true replacement, declaring the previous report erroneous. A press release announcing the news was sent to MTV News shortly thereafter.

Moore officially left the film Tuesday amid controversy surrounding her hospitalization, which a rep for the actress referred to as Moore's decision to "seek professional assistance to treat her exhaustion and improve her overall health." Since Moore's hospitalization, rumors have run rampant seeking an explanation for the medical emergency. Claims of drug and nitrous-oxide abuse arose shortly after word of the incident broke.

Check out everything we've got on "Lovelace."

Lady Gaga Opens Italian Restaurant With Her Dad

Joanne Trattoria named in honor of her late aunt.
By Gil Kaufman

<P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml" target="_blank">Lady Gaga</a> is known for being ostentatious, outrageous and making the biggest entrance possible. But for a star that has made her name for shocking our senses, Mother Monster's newest venture is decidedly low-key. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="id:1669247" width="240" height="211"></div><p> After dropping several mentions in interviews over the past few months about a new restaurant she planned to launch with her father, Joseph Germanotta, Joanne Trattoria will finally open its doors on Wednesday. The modest Italian neighborhood eatery on West 68th Street in New York was described by <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/25/dining/lady-gagas-parents-to-open-joanne-trattoria.html?_r=2" target="_blank"><I>The New York Times</I></a> as having a "well-stocked bar, a cozy back patio and seating for about 70 people." The walls are covered with scenes of the Tuscan countryside, and near a fireplace at the entrance, diners will see some Germanotta family photos hanging by a front booth. The restaurant will be run by Joseph and Gaga's mother, Cynthia, and her proud pop admitted that his daughter "just generates a lot of sizzle," helping to get the word out about the venture. The chef and partner in the business is Art Smith, who met Gaga at a taping for the "Oprah Winfrey Show." Smith was Winfrey's personal chef for several years. The name was inspired by Joseph's late sister, Joanne, who died of lupus at age 19. Not only is "Joanne" Gaga's middle name, but in a number of interviews the singer has <a href="http://newsroom.mtv.com/2011/10/31/lady-gaga-dad-joseph-restaurant-joanne/" target="_blank">opened up</a> about her strong connection with her late aunt. "I thought I was gonna die," she said last year. "I wanted to be the artists I loved, like Mick Jagger and Andy Warhol -- and I thought the only way to do it was to live the lifestyle. But then I realized my father's sister Joanne, who'd died at 19, had instilled her spirit in me. She was a painter and a poet -- and I had a spiritual vision I had to finish her business." The <I>Times</I> noted that Gaga is not officially a part-owner of the restaurant, which Joseph said the family could have afforded to open even if his daughter had not risen to global fame. It has long been his dream to open the eatery, he said, and visitors at Joanne will dine on "Southern Italian," given that Smith is from the South and the Germanottas are Italian. That means they will chow down on dishes such as "Papa G's chicken," traditional offerings like osso buco inspired by Joanne and "Cynthia's salad," named for Gaga's mother. Hoping to temper fans' expectations, Joseph said he wasn't sure if he'd post current pics of Gaga among the family photos. Maybe, he said, just an old one in which she's not as recognizable. And though he's happy to have his eldest get the word out about the family business, if fans make the trek expecting to see a trophy case with VMAs and Grammys, "It's not going to happen," he warned.</p>

Maroon 5 Say Mick Endorses 'Moves Like Jagger' Video

<P><a href="/music/artist/maroon_5/artist.jhtml">Maroon 5</a>'s Adam Levine has already made a compelling argument for why his band's new single, <a href="/news/articles/1667112/maroon-five-moves-like-jagger-summer-song.jhtml">"Moves Like Jagger,"</a> deserves to be your pick for the Summer Jam of 2011: Basically, unless you want to have the worst beach trip ever, you will add the song to your playlist. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:673274" width="240" height="211"></div><p> But now, with the new "Jagger" video, Levine's making an equally compelling argument for why the Rolling Stones frontman deserves to be a part of your summer, too &#8212; mainly because he's pretty much the coolest guy ever. "We were lucky enough to get Mick's endorsement [for the video], as far as him giving us access to a bunch of different footage that's so cool," Levine explained. "Not many people have seen [it], especially a newer generation of people that don't know so much about how incredible he was." Maroon 5 teamed with director Jonas &#197;kerlund &#8212; who's helmed clips for everyone from Lady Gaga and Britney Spears to the Prodigy and Blink-182 &#8212; for the "Jagger" video, which allowed the band to focus its attention on replicating the icon's moves. "It's kind of a hodgepodge of many different ideas that we wanted to do, and Jonas &#197;kerlund is at the helm of this whole thing, and he's so talented and we love working with him, and this is going to be another great video, I think," Levine said. "We trust him so much that we can kind of take ourselves out of it a little more and just be like, 'He's Jonas, so he'll do his thing.' "</p>

Demi Moore 'Breakdown Isn't Surprising,' Expert Says

One celebrity watcher weighs in on the actress' latest personal woes.
By Jocelyn Vena

As more details about Demi Moore's recent hospitalization emerge, celebrity watchers are getting an inside look at the actress' personal life since her split with Ashton Kutcher in November. While some revelations may seem too personal, one expert told MTV News this sort of nothing's-off-limits coverage comes with the territory.

"When you're a celebrity, it's open season for the press to scrutinize every aspect of your life, specifically your personal life. Most celebrities are used to being under the microscope like this, but when the scrutiny involves their personal relationships, especially a split, everything is magnified," celebrity magazine editor David Caplan told MTV News on Friday, just as the 911 call from the night of her health scare hit the Web.

"The scrutiny, the press coverage ... can be very stressful for a celebrity, because the majority of the information being disseminated about the relationship and the split in the press is often highly critical of the celebrity," he added.

Photos: Demi Moore's career evolution.

When one bit of bad news — like a divorce or substance abuse — comes to light, the media has a field day trying to uncover even more dirt.

"As the press seeks to explain why the split occurred, skeletons in a stars' closet are revealed, and demons are revealed. In the case of Demi and Ashton, she was basically humiliated since it came to light that Ashton was blatantly cheating on Demi, with younger women, making Demi look like she was manipulated in the relationship — let alone reports claiming they had an open marriage," Caplan said. "Once this was revealed, the floodgates were open and stories emerged of Demi's alleged low self-esteem, how her partying put strain on the marriage and other aspects about her life. For someone who already seems to be on an emotional roller coaster, this doesn't bode well for Demi's mental health and well-being."

As the Demi story continues to hold the public's interest, expect the focus to also fall on her famous ex. "It's also exacerbated by the fact that Ashton seems to be going on with his life and enjoying himself," Caplan noted. "Combining all this together takes such a mental toll, a breakdown isn't surprising."

Christina Aguilera Will Return To 'The Voice'

Rest of the panel is also signed on to return.
By Gil Kaufman

<P>Unlike the typical <a href="/news/articles/1666686/american-idol-jennifer-lopez.jhtml">judges'-panel drama unfolding over at "American Idol,"</a> it looks like NBC newcomer "The Voice" has locked down its diva for a second season: <a href="/music/artist/aguilera_christina/artist.jhtml">Christina Aguilera</a> will be back on the small screen in the spring. According to <a href="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/voice-christina-aguilera-return-as-207301" target="_blank"><I>The Hollywood Reporter,</I></a> despite rumors to the contrary, an unnamed source said Aguilera actually agreed to give it another go on the reality singing competition "weeks ago." The good news for fans of the upstart show is that Aguilera will be seated in the tall-backed chairs next to all her homeboys, as Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine, country star Blake Shelton and Cee Lo Green have also officially re-inked. Citing an unnamed source, <a href="http://www.usmagazine.com/moviestvmusic/news/all-4-coaches-from-the-voice-have-signed-on-for-season-2-2011306" target="_blank"><I>Us Weekly</I></a> reported Thursday (June 30) that the entire quartet have signed on for a second season. Shelton recently told a <a href="http://www.wivk.com/Article.asp?id=2212759&spid=" target="_blank">Knoxville, Tennessee, radio station</a> that he'd love to come back for another run. "The reality of it is, you've got four different artists who are doing completely different things and a network that has a time schedule that they want things to happen in," he said. "Who knows what'll happen, but I'd hate to miss it." Levine &#8212; who mentored <a href="/news/articles/1666647/javier-colon-the-voice-winner.jhtml">Javier Colon to a win</a> on Wednesday night &#8212; also seemed eager to make a return engagement. "Yeah, that's the question that everyone's asking me," he told the <I>Reporter</I> earlier this week about the constant questions about whether he'll be back. "I'd hate to say for sure, but I think so. If they'll have me, I'd be delighted to be back." The show has been renewed for another season and is expected to make its second bow after the Super Bowl in the spring. The <I>Reporter</I> also revealed that the pay scale on the show has Aguilera far out-earning her fellow coaches, raking in a reported $225,000 per episode to the men's $75,000 each. The quick re-sign of Aguilera is in contrast to the drama at the granddaddy of hit TV reality singing shows, "Idol." While veteran judge <a href="/news/articles/1666649/american-idol-judges-randy-jackson-steven-tyler.jhtml">Randy Jackson and newbie Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler</a> are onboard for the upcoming 11th season, it remains unclear if the other new face of the series, Jennifer Lopez, will be back. With her music career revived, thanks to the exposure of "Idol," Lopez has been coy about whether she's willing to give it another shot. "You know, this is the question of the hour," she said earlier this month in an interview with BBC's Radio 1. "I don't know. I haven't been forced to make a decision, and I'm glad about that because, honestly, I'm very on the fence about it. I had an amazing time doing it and I loved it, but I have a lot of other things happening, and it's going to come down to me making a choice of what I want to do for the next year, and we're not really at the breaking point of, 'You have to make a decision right now!' I'm just really enjoying the time of just waiting and seeing." <i>Are you happy the panel will be back on "The Voice"? Let us know in the comments!</i></p>

Lady Gaga Is Forbes' Top-Earning Woman In Music

Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Celine Dion and Adele round out the top five.
By Jocelyn Vena

<P>Apparently, <a href="/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml">Lady Gaga</a> made a little bit of money this year: She tops <a href="http://www.forbes.com/sites/zackomalleygreenburg/2011/12/14/the-top-earning-women-in-music-lady-gaga-taylor-swift-katy-parry-alicia-keys/" target="_blank"><i>Forbes</i></a>' list of Top-Earning Women in Music in 2011. Just how much did Gaga make this past year? According to the magazine, the singer netted $90 million thanks to sales of <i>Born This Way,</i> her massive Monster Ball Tour and a number of endorsement deals. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:718490" width="240" height="211"></div><p> But she's not the only lady making bank this year. Coming in at #2 is <a href="/music/artist/swift__taylor/artist.jhtml">Taylor Swift</a>. The country/pop superstar managed to make $45 million over the past 12 months with the never-ending success of her <i>Speak Now</i> album (which she released back in 2010) and her tour of the same name. Nipping at her heels is <a href="/music/artist/perry_katy/artist.jhtml">Katy Perry</a>. The <a href="/news/articles/1675970/katy-perry-one-that-got-away-record.jhtml"><i>Billboard</i> record-holder</a> amassed $44 million with continued singles from 2010's <i>Teenage Dream</i> and her California Dreams Tour. Perhaps the biggest surprise in the top five is <a href="/music/artist/dion_celine/artist.jhtml">Celine Dion</a>. The Canadian singer comes in at #4 with $19 million in earnings. The singer's success is due in part to her Las Vegas stage show. <a href="/music/artist/adele/artist.jhtml">Adele</a> squeaked into the top five at #5 with $18 million, earned mostly from the album sales from her chart-dominating <i>21.</i> Alicia Keys also makes the list; <i>Forbes</i> reports that the singer earned $10 million, beating out her hubby Swizz Beatz for the year by $3.5 million. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:702275" width="240" height="211"></div><p> <i>Forbes</i> compiled the list using income earned from May 2010 through May 2011. It also used data from Pollstar and RIAA, as well as interviews with industry insiders and the musicians themselves. Many of the ladies on this list also landed on MTV's <a href="/news/articles/1675921/best-songs-2011.jhtml">Songs of the Year</a> countdown; Gaga's "Born This Way" comes in at #5 and Perry's "Firework" sits at #10. <b>All this week, watch "AMTV" on MTV every day at 8 a.m. ET for our <a href="http://www.mtv.com/specials/best_of/">Best of 2011</a> lists. Madonna Praises Lady Gaga's 'Rawness'

Queen of Pop opens up about the Mother Monster on 'The Graham Norton Show.'
By Jocelyn Vena

Madonna
Photo: Jon Furniss/ WireImage

<P>Here in the States, <a href="/news/articles/1677260/madonna-lady-gaga-born-this-way.jhtml">Madonna sat down with ABC News</a> and had some <i>interesting</i> comments about Lady Gaga. In another <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=ukTFzM6Wfdg" target="_blank">interview</a>, on Friday's (January 13) <a href="http://www.bbcamerica.com/the-graham-norton-show/" target="_blank">"The Graham Norton Show,"</a> the singer seemed to take the high road and likened her early days of hustling in New York City to <a href="/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml">Gaga</a>'s beginnings. "When I first saw her, I saw her performing at a very small club in Manhattan a couple of years ago, maybe it was like three years ago," she said. "I was actually really impressed by her. I thought she was really cool and she did remind me of me back in the day. I liked her rawness and there was something fresh about there and ballsy, and when she spoke to the audience, she sounded like she had a similar sense of humor to me, quite ironic, and I liked her. So I do think she is very talented." That was really the end of the subject during their chat, other than when Madonna teased the British talk-show host about naming his dog after her. However, when he said his other dog was named Bailey, she quipped, "Not Gaga?" Some of that sentiment was mirrored in Madge's ABC interview, the rest of which airs on Friday's night's <i>20/20</i>. While she did call Gaga's "Born This Way" song "reductive" when asked about comparisons to her own "Express Yourself," she went on to say that she sees a lot of her own work in Gaga's. "I certainly think she references me a lot in her work. And sometimes I think it's amusing and flattering and well-done," she said, later adding that she thinks Gaga is "a very talented artist" and that she's making a "statement about taking something that was in the zeitgeist, you know, 20 years ago and turning it inside out and reinterpreting it." Madonna is currently making the rounds promoting her next album, <a href="/news/articles/1677103/madonna-album-mdna.jhtml"><i>M.D.N.A.,</i></a> as well as <a href="/news/articles/1674125/madonna-we-film-delayed.jhtml">her film "W.E."</a> <i>What do you think of Madonna's Gaga thoughts? 'Breaking Dawn' Leading In Round One Of MTV Movie Brawl!

'Hunger Games' races to front, while dark horses 'John Carter' and 'Dark Shadows' also show promise in 2012 tourney.

It's the brawl to win it all!

On Tuesday, we launched MTV Movie Brawl 2012, a winner-take-all tournament to pick this year's must-see movie. Starting with 32 films in an epic "play-in" round to pick 16 flicks that will make it into our March Madness-style bracket, the Brawl has kicked off with fans giving it 110 percent, determined to leave it all out on the field, and ready to step up and make plays.

This is what the playoffs are all about. As MTV News' team of analysts pointed out at the start of the tourney, there are three front-runners at this early point in the competition: "Breaking Dawn - Part 2," "The Hunger Games" and "The Dark Knight Rises." So far, two of those flicks are living up to expectations, while one is going to have a lot of questions to answer if it can't turn things around.

"Breaking Dawn" has staked out an early lead and has got to be an odds-on favorite to secure a #1 seed when the 16-team bracket is chosen at the end of this first round. Hunger Games has got its game face on and is trailing close behind; a number-one seed for this rookie sensation seems like a lock. "Dark Knight Rises," however, is not showing the determination and drive we'd expect from a film with such ravenous fans. Christopher Nolan's third Batman movie has settled into the #6 slot thus far and will have to pick up the slack if it expects to head into the bracket with any sort of momentum.

Voting in round one is open in MTV Movie Brawl 2012!

Films that have been flexing some unexpected Movie Brawl muscle include "John Carter" and "Dark Shadows." The former hits theaters in March, the latter in May; what they both have in common are fans coming out of the woodwork to support their underdogs and turn them into dark horses. Meanwhile, no one who's been paying attention to the cinematic landscape should be surprised that "Snow White and the Huntsman" has been playing like a savvy vet, given that the film is led by Kristen Stewart. Veteran leadership, especially from "Twilight" stars, is going to prove a key factor as the Brawl moves forward.

On the other end of the spectrum, there are a few films that are going to have to look themselves in the mirror and ask if they truly want to be in this competition. "Skyfall" and "The Amazing Spider-Man," for instance, are both floundering in the back of the pack. Unless fans step up and vote for Bond and Spidey, these films are looking at an early trip home and months of second-guessing. And while we don't expect high-brow fare like Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" to be able to tussle with the big franchises, we were hoping for more from QT fans than a first-round exit.

So that's where we stand on the second day of the competition. Anything can happen at this point. Seriously. That's why we've just introduced a wild-card round in which fans will be able to add a few movies that didn't make the original 32 — Robert Pattinson's "Cosmopolis"? Emma Watson's "Perks of Being a Wallflower"? — and, if they deliver enough votes, slip them into the 16-movie bracket.

Voting in the first round closes Sunday, January 8, and the bracket kicks off on Monday, January 9.

What are you waiting for? Your must-see movie needs your support. It's time to show character, poise and heart. Vote for your picks now at MTV Movie Brawl 2012!

Nicki Minaj And Pitbull Celebrate AMA Nominations1672358

Whether they had a heads-up or not, when Nicki Minaj and Pitbull unveiled the nominees for the 39th annual American Music Awards on Tuesday (October 11), it was obvious they were both pleased to read the other's name off the list.

Minaj is nominated for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist and Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album, while Pitbull picked up nods for Favorite Latin Music Artist and Favorite Pop or Rock Male Artist. When MTV News caught up with the nominees immediately following the announcement, they weren't shy about their hopes for bringing home the big awards come November 20, when the AMAs air live on ABC. "It's an honor to be here with the kind of caliber of artists here," Pitbull said of fellow nominees Justin Bieber, Bruno Mars, Enrique Iglesias and Jennifer Lopez. "Me, I come to the awards shows and I just learn, I watch everyone, I see how they handle their performances and hopefully grab a couple things and apply it to my career. So to be here nominated and to also be performing at the AMAs, I want to thank you." The "Give Me Everything" singer also promised he'll do his best to top his VMA performance when he takes the AMA stage. "That [VMA performance] was definitely a lot of fun. It's hard to get 60 women from Miami on a plane after they were partying the night before and bring that vibe out there," he joked. "But that's definitely what we're looking for: We're looking for a lot of energy, something very sexy, sophisticated, powerful — and get ready." With regard to Miss Minaj's chances at victory, she's nominated in both categories with Young Money boss Lil Wayne, so we wanted to know if there will be any friendly wagering going on beforehand. "I don't know. He's won enough," she said with a smile. "He's been winning for 10 years, so he can move to the side and let me win, hopefully." Who will you be rooting for at the AMAs? Jennifer Lopez Covers Glamour Women Of The Year Issue1673289

'American Idol' judge is the magazine's 'All-Star Woman.'

Jennifer Lopez has had a roller coaster ride of a year. In January, the singer took over one of the vacant judges' seats on "American Idol," scored a hit single with "On the Floor" off her album Love? a few months later, and saw her seven-year marriage to Marc Anthony come to an end in the summer.

But it seems 2011 will end on a high note for Lopez as she'll grace the December cover of Glamour's annual Women of the Year issue. Lopez is being honored as an "All-Star Woman" for her numerous achievements this year in television, music, fashion and charity. The singer/actress/fashionista was interviewed for the magazine by another inspiring woman, actress Jane Fonda. Lopez talked candidly about what she's learned about love and relationships over this past year. "I think I've finally learned the biggest lesson of all: You've got to love yourself first," Lopez says. "You've got to be OK on your own before you can be OK with someone else. You've got to value yourself and know that you're worth everything. And until you value yourself enough and love yourself enough to know that, you can't really have a healthy relationship." So does that mean Lopez is ready to date again? Possibly, but this time she plans to try to keep her love life out of the tabloids. "I think to give something a chance, to really get to know somebody, you want to do it out of the public eye," Lopez says. "You know the media — they want to rush everything." While Lopez's romances often make headlines, the "American Idol" judge has been also been known to turn heads with her style. "The things I liked when I was, like, 16 and in the Bronx — jeans, cut-up T-shirts — I still like," she admits. "But I've been exposed to so much now from traveling the world and seeing couture clothes," Lopez added. "I used all of that when I created my new line for Kohl's. My style has come from everything, from where I started to where I am today." Lopez and 10 other lucky ladies will be honored in Glamour magazine's Women of the Year issue, which hits newsstands November 1. Who else do you think deserves Glamour's Women of the Year honor? On Sunday night (November 20), the music industry's A-listers gathered inside Los Angeles' Nokia Theatre to celebrate some of 2011's most memorable musical moments. It was a night dominated by chart-toppers like Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj and Jennifer Lopez. Minaj and David Guetta were the first to electrify the stage. The two stars joined forces to get the room jumping with their track "Turn Me On," which transitioned into Nicki's breakthrough hit "Super Bass." Maroon 5 were the first big winners, taking home Favorite Pop/Rock Band, Duo or Group. "This is our first one. This is crazy. I think in order to get one of these, you have to have loyal fans," lead singer Adam Levine said. Next up, Swift nabbed a trophy for Favorite Country Female Artist. After hugging pal Selena Gomez, Taylor excitedly accepted her award wearing a glittering gown. "I want to thank my band and my crew and the fans for filling up stadiums," she said. "And my mom and my dad and my brother who came with me tonight, and my fans who continue to amaze me." Sean Kingston was onstage to welcome his "true friend" Justin Bieber, whom he noted kept in touch with him continually during his recovery earlier this year. Bieber brought a little Christmas to the stage, performing his Under the Mistletoe song "Mistletoe."

The flurry of performances continued, including one from the Band Perry (who appear on Bieber's UTM) singing their crossover track "If I Die Young." Then 50 Cent took the stage to proclaim the following about Chris Brown: "You haven't seen this guy till you've seen him perform onstage. It's the main event." Brown gave the room a little medley, slowing it down with "All Back" then transitioning into "Say It With Me." Nicki Minaj took home her first award for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist. She was the only girl up against Yeezy and Weezy. "I didn't think I was going to win it," she told the room. "I have to thank God ... and Taylor Swift, wherever you are. I want to thank my Barbz. There's power in your peace. Hold your peace." Kelly Clarkson performed a big-band-inspired version of her song "Mr. Know It All" before Favorite Soul/R&B Album was handed out to Rihanna for Loud. In a pre-taped message, Rihanna said, "This means a lot to me. I love you guys. Thanks to all my fans." Enrique Iglesias took the stage with a little help from a marching band to perform his feel-good track "I Like How It Feels" then recalled his performance last year when he once again performed "Tonight." Jennifer Lopez followed up her fellow Latin superstar, kicking off her performance in a very diva way, complete with a flowing gown and wind machine, before kicking into high gear with "Papi," for which she changed into a sparkly, body-hugging outfit. For her third costume change, Pitbull took the stage with her for "On the Floor." Lady Antebellum locked in the prize for Favorite Country Band, Duo or Group. Leading lady Hillary Scott said, "We just want to say thank you to the fans. It starts and ends with you." Adam Lambert made his return to the AMA stage two years after his memorable (and divisive) debut performance, welcoming OneRepublic, who performed "Good Life" and had Bieber bopping his head from the audience. Then, Minaj was back again, winning Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album for Pink Friday. Swift handed it off to her before Minaj said, "This one can actually make me cry. I can't believe this is happening ... just chase your dreams," she told her fans. "Shout out to all the female rappers, past, present and future." Pitbull was joined by hypeman Lil Jon and Marc Anthony for "Rain Over Me" before Katy Perry took the stage. All decked out in pink, she embraced the sadness of her track "The One That Got Away" by keeping it simple and acoustic.

Immediately after performing, Perry was surprised with a special award of achievement for being the first woman in the history of pop music to have five #1 singles from one album. "Can I just say, thank you so much for letting me be a chameleon this year. I love you so much, and I also love my fans. I want to thank my band and all of the people who came out to see me." Hot Chelle Rae won for New Artist of the Year before J.Lo took it home for Favorite Latin Artist. "I'm shaking," she said. "I didn't expect to win. It's been a really amazing year in so many ways. It's been up and down. It's been exciting and overwhelming. I'm just grateful for all my blessings." Mary J. Blige brought some swagger to the stage for "Mr. Wrong" before paying homage to late MC Heavy D. "Rest in peace to my dear friend, the lovable, the great Heavy D. I miss you so much, brother." The Favorite Soul R&B Female Artist went to Beyoncé, who accepted the trophy from NYC. "AMAs thank you very, very much. I'm so excited about this award because it was voted by all of my fans, and I have the best fans in the world. Actually, you're the only people I want to thank." "Moves Like Jagger" brought Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera out, and their rollicking rendition of the bouncy party track had Swift and Gomez dancing in the audience. That transitioned nicely into Maroon frontman Levine joining Gym Class Heroes for their performance of "Stereo Hearts," complete with a big boom box behind them. Drake brought some fire to the stage with his track "Headlines," which had the house going wild, including his Young Money sister Minaj and Swift, who seemed to know all the words to the Take Care track. Bruno Mars won for Favroite Pop/Rock Male Artist. "I want to thank the fans," he said. "You all mean everything to me. I want to say hi to my family at home in Hawaii." Daughtry brought power rock to the show with "Back to You," and then Swift took home another award: Favorite Country Album for Speak Now. "I want to thank all the fans for remembering the lyrics and caring about lyrics," she said. "This is so amazing." Next, will.i.am took the stage with Jennifer Lopez for the premiere of his track "T.H.E. (The Hardest Ever)" for what turned out to be one very eye-popping performance, relying heavily on neon clothes and some assistance from Mick Jagger via video. Adele won for Favorite Pop/Rock Album for 21, however, it was Swift who took home the big award for Artist of the Year, bringing her career AMA total to 10. "This is one of the craziest things that has ever happened to me," she said. "Thank you so much to the fans. I have no idea. I didn't think this was going to happen. I love you, Selena, my little sister I never had. Oh my God! Thank you for everything." But that was hardly the end. LMFAO were the show's big finale, and they rocked out with lasers, their party-boy demeanor and lots of smooth dance moves as they hit the stage for "Party Rock Anthem" and "Sexy and I Know It." Oh yeah: Bieber and David Hasselhoff also hit the stage with the guys. Apparently they really like to shuffle. And wiggle. What did you think of the AMAs? Let us know in the comments below!

Justin Bieber Kicks Off New Year With New Track1676649

Pop star debuts 'Happy New Year,' a swaggerfied slow jam featuring Jaden Smith.

Justin Bieber isn't new to creating holiday songs using his new-millennium, R&B swagger, as evidenced on his Christmas album, Under The Mistletoe. And this weekend, he gave New Year's a try. The singer tweeted a New Year's-themed track, "Happy New Year," which features his pal Jaden Smith rapping.

The slow jam is certainly swaggerfied but also reflective, featuring lyrics that both play up the singer's pop-star image and look ahead to a more hopeful year. "I'm gonna make your cheeks red when I kiss your neck/Girl I'm never leavin' 'cause you are the best baby," he sings. "I wanna give you everything/Never feel 'cause girl you're coming home with me." In a spoken breakdown, he says, "2012 is the year to be better, stronger and closer to the people around you. So grab someone special, and just, you know." Smith also shows some bad-boy personality and proves that rapping runs in the Smith DNA. He raps, " 'Cause 2012 is the year of the love/And we gon' start it off/We can get a plane today and get a car toma'/We don't do it small at all/No girl tell me what I gotta to do/I can be the beat that you rockin' to/I can do anything, nothing is impossible, especially with you girl/And I never need a new girl/This love is true girl/Aye welcome to the crew girl." Not only was Bieber gracing fans with new tracks over the weekend, but he also took the stage during "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve 2012" in Times Square, not far from where his lady love Selena Gomez was hosting "NYE in NYC 2012." The twosome later partied together at Glass House, E! News reports. A source says, "He...danced with Selena, showing off, picking her up and swinging her around like it was 'Dancing With the Stars.' " Bieber recently debuted another track"Be Alright," during his holiday special, "Justin Bieber: Home For The Holidays." He's expected to drop his new album, Believe, later this year.
