'The Voice' Stars Say Show Is 'Serious' But 'Fun'

'I think the commonality between all four of our coaches is their passion for music,' show host Carson Daly says.

For die-hard fans of reality TV singing contests who just can't get enough, NBC has a treat for you in the form of "The Voice." Hosted by Carson Daly and featuring superstar mentors Christina Aguilera, Cee-Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton, the show hopes to discover yet another future pop star.

MTV caught up with the new reality TV cast recently to get some scoop on the music veterans working on the show.

"I'm really excited about 'The Voice,' " Daly said. "I think the commonality between all four of our coaches is their passion for music, and they're all excellent voices, they're all very business savvy."

Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine guaranteed that while they are taking the job seriously, there's plenty of lightheartedness too.

"This show is just fun, and throughout the whole thing, we're interacting with each other," he said. "And yeah, it's serious, it's a competition, [and] we want these guys to succeed."

"We've been a little apprehensive about allowing ourselves to be considered or called judges," Green admitted. "At the end of the day, we're doing a bit more mentoring and a little more coaching more than we're judging."

Green has also said that part of the draw of "The Voice" is its unconventional concept.

"At first, I thought it was a very cool and original concept," Green said, speaking of the format in which coaches sit with their backs to contestants to focus on their vocals instead of their looks as they decide whether to mentor them through later rounds. ‪"We're all coming from such different worlds that there's a coexistence," he added. "[But] there's a bit of friendly competition because we're all playing to win."

After getting advice from the professional singers during battle phases — where they can also call in choreographers, stylists and producers to help their charges — the wannabe stars will go on to live performance shows where the TV audience will vote on who advances and wins the $100,000 prize and recording contract.

"The Voice" premieres Tuesday (April 26) at 9 p.m. ET.

Black Eyed Peas, Taylor Swift 'Feel Horrible' About Concert Cancellation

The Peas and Swift took to Twitter to apologize to fans after a star-studded NYC charity show was postponed due to bad weather on Thursday.

The weather just didn't want to cooperate with the Black Eyed Peas, Taylor Swift and the other artists slated to perform in New York's Central Park on Thursday night at a concert to benefit the Robin Hood Foundation anti-poverty organization. After a number of delays, and before anyone could take the stage, the Concert 4 NYC had been canceled.

The show, which had been slated to take place on Central Park's Great Lawn and was expected to draw an audience of approximately 60,000 fans, initially was just delayed but concert promoters eventually decided to pull the plug on the event as the weather worsened and thunder and rain rolled in, Billboard.com reports. Among the other acts that had been scheduled to perform were Debbie Harry, LL Cool J and Natasha Bedingfield.

A rep for the concert has confirmed to MTV News that no new date has been scheduled. In a statement, the Robin Hood Foundation said, "The heat wasn't going to stop them, the rain wasn't going to stop them, but the lightning — it stopped them. It came down to safety for everyone. Organizers are hoping to reschedule, so ticket buyers should hold onto their tickets. Robinhood.org will have information in the next week or so."

The artists themselves also have apologized to fans for the cancelation. Swift tweeted, "I was like 'I get to sing with Fergie in NYC?!' and then there was rain and lightning and they're like 'it's cancelled' and I was like [sad emoticon]."

The Black Eyed Peas, who reportedly performed an intimate show backstage for fans, also took to Twitter to posted about the nixed concert. "I'm so sad the show got postponed," will.i.am wrote.

"Fergie is really sorry it's not happening we feel horrible," Taboo added on his Twitter page. "We are devastated and Fergie told me to tweet this she loves u all ... I hope that the concert will be rescheduled ASAP, our pea-ple deserve it, my pea-ple from chase and robinhood deserve this NYC we love u."

Justin Bieber is all about surprises this summer. Back in July, the 17-year-old pop superstar took fans by surprise when he joined Selena Gomez onstage in Costa Mesa, California, and on Tuesday night, he made another unexpected appearance when he joined Taylor Swift onstage for a duet of his hit "Baby" at her Speak Now tour stop in Los Angeles.

Video footage of the duo's performance at the Staples Center hit the Internet shortly after the concert. It shows the music superstars sharing song verses and Bieber spitting a brief rap midway through the number.

Swift took to Twitter hours later to applaud her roaring concert audience and their overwhelming reaction to the Bieb's surprise appearance. "Dear amazing LA crowd tonight, God only knows what I'd be without you," she wrote. "You think you've heard LOUD screaming in your life. Then @justinbieber comes out and does a surprise song during your show. Woah. Unreal."

Bieber responded to the country-pop darling, tweeting, "@taylorswift13 we should do that more often. :) great show! #muchlove."

It was nothing but love as Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun, also chimed in on the surprise concert cameo. "Had to keep it a secret all day. But @justinbieber just came out and sang BABY with @taylorswift13 at STAPLES. EPIC ROAR! #greatmoment," he wrote on Twitter.

Bieber also recently collaborated with Chris Brown. Earlier this month, the Video Music Award nominee showed off his rap skills on "Ladies Love Me," a track that appears on Breezy's Boy in Detention mixtape.

How Did Bruno Mars End Up On Song Of Summer 'Lighters'?

Singer jokes that a 'freestyle battle' with Eminem landed him on Bad Meets Evil track.
By Jocelyn Vena

Over on the MTV Newsroom blog, it was a heated battle for 2011's Song of the Summer. Would it be Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Katy Perry or LMFAO? Or would Bad Meets Evil (Eminem and Royce Da 5'9'') bring home the title for hip-hop heads everywhere?

Well, on Wednesday (September 7), the world spoke, and the summer jam that reigned supreme was Bad Meets Evil's feel-good anthem "Lighters," featuring Bruno Mars. Earlier this summer, MTV News caught up with Mars, and he revealed just how he ended up on the track.

"It was a freestyle battle," he joked. "I said, 'Yo, Em, if I beat you, you're gonna have to do a song with me!' I shut him down right then and there."

What's no joke is the way fans have been connecting with the track, which proudly declares, "This one's for you and me living out our dreams/ We're all right where we should be/ With my arms out wide I open my eyes/ And now all I wanna see is a sky full of lighters."

Now that Mars and his crew are the ruling Kings of Summer, he is planning his next big move, which includes a top-secret new track. "I'm definitely thinking about what's next," he said. "I've got a song that I just wrote that I'm extremely proud of and I worked really hard on, and it's gonna come out soon."

While he wouldn't say much else, he teased that the song was for Michael Bolton before admitting, "No, it's for me."

In addition to working on more tracks for his own bustling career, he shared that he'd love to get into the studio with Cee Lo Green again, and even Lil Wayne. "But this is just the very beginning and there's a lot more to come."

What are you expecting next from Bruno Mars? Let us know in the comments!

Lily Collins Is Our New Class' 'Ass-Kicking Girl Next Door'

With 'Mortal Instruments' and 'Snow White' still to come, the badass-yet-relatable actress is destined for mega-fame.
By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Kara Warner

Lily Collins
Photo: MTV News

We called it way back in January: Lily Collins was an actress to watch in 2011.

At that point, her career was just heating up following a turn as Sandra Bullock's daughter in "The Blind Side." An impressive series of castings in high-profile films followed: "Priest," "Abduction" opposite Taylor Lautner and an adaptation of the best-selling YA series "The Mortal Instruments." A few months later, she landed the role of Snow White in Relativity Media's Julia Roberts-starring take on the fairy tale.

Collins is making good on our predictions, which is why we've selected her as part of our New Class — a collection of young talent about to rise to the top of Hollywood, including her "Mortal Instruments" co-star Jamie Campbell Bower. With her badass-yet-relatable roles, Collins is our New Class' "Ass-Kicking Girl Next Door."

Though she's had all of 2011 to get used to the spotlight, the whole celebrity thing continues to feel odd.

"It feels very surreal," she told us at the "Abduction" red carpet. "It's weird getting out of a car and people are saying my name. It's still a weird concept to me."

Give her time. Collins told us she'd like to model her career after Keira Knightley, Kate Winslet or Meryl Streep. "I like that none of them have stuck themselves in a box," she said. "They've done all sorts of roles — comedic, dramatic, they've gone from indies to big motion pictures. I love their choices."

And she's a fan of the New Class itself, which includes not only Bower, but Emma Watson, Josh Hutcherson, Julianne Hough and Nina Dobrev.

"It's an honor to be placed in the New Class of actors," Collins said. "I'm doing what I love, and I'm having the best time."

Jennifer Lopez And Marc Anthony: A Timeline

Superstar couple first met in the late 1990s.
By Gil Kaufman

Photo: AFP/Getty Images

Fans were shocked when the news broke on Friday night that Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony announced they were ending their seven-year marriage.

The split came after the two worked closely together on this season of "American Idol" — on which they even performed a song together — and embarked on a South American adventure this summer for their upcoming reality talent competition, "¡Q'Viva! The Chosen."

The Latin stars first crossed paths in the 1990s and their relationship had a number of ups and downs, but the pair seemed steady, particularly in the last year, working on projects together and raising their twins, Max and Emme, born in 2008. Here, we look back on their union.

» Lopez and Anthony first met backstage at singer Paul Simon's 1998 Broadway show "The Capeman," in which Anthony starred. Lopez, then just a friend, co-starred in Anthony's video for the song "Contra La Corriente" and he returned the favor by recording the duet "No Me Ames" on her breakthrough 1999 album, On the 6. Both emerging stars, the pair dated briefly during that period in the late 1990s.

» Before meeting Anthony, Lopez was married to waiter Ojani Noa for a year (1997 to 1998), after which she moved on to a high-profile, nearly three-year relationship with Sean "Diddy" Combs. Lopez went on to marry former backup dancer Chris Judd in 2001, a union that lasted less than a year due to her subsequent relationship with actor Ben Affleck. The latter pair's very public relationship proved a model of overexposure and a wedding was called off just hours before it was scheduled to take place. Lopez was seen hanging with Anthony just months after the Affleck wedding was called off in September 2003.

» In the meantime, Anthony married former Miss Universe Dayanara Torres in May 2000 and the couple had two sons before separating in early 2002. They got back together later that year, only to divorce two years later.

» Lopez and Anthony married on June 5, 2004, less than a week after his divorce to Torres was finalized. Though the secret ceremony was small, they went public as a couple with a performance of "Escapemonos" at the 47th annual Grammy Awards in February 2005.

» Their personal and professional lives became very entwined once they took the plunge, including a duet for the soundtrack to Lopez's 2004 movie "Shall We Dance?" that was reportedly later axed from the album over fears that their relationship would overshadow the film in the way her liaison with Affleck sunk their notorious bomb, "Gigli."

» Lopez cast Anthony's daughter, Arianna, in the video for "Get Right," the first single from her 2005 album Rebirth.

The couple co-starred in 2007's "El Cantante," the story of troubled salsa legend Hector Lavoe. They also toured together that year.

» Their children, twins Emme Maribel Muniz and Maximillian David Muniz, were born on February 22, 2008.

» The pair made a splash at a number of official balls during President Barack Obama's inauguration in January 2009.

» After Lopez began her tenure as a judge on "American Idol," Anthony joined the show as well in the role of unofficial mentor to the young singers. The duo also performed together on the show.

» In May of this year, they announced their joint fashion line for Kohl's, which is slated to hit stores in September. A month later, they revealed their new reality talent competition, "¡Q'Viva! The Chosen," which will take them on a journey to Latin America to find new stars. According to Deadline Hollywood, the breakup will not affect the show, which has not yet completed its journey to 21 countries across Latin America. In fact, they haven't even filmed their parts yet and an unnamed spokesperson for the production said they are both still committed to the show.

» According to US Weekly, tongues began wagging about a possible breakup on July 9, when Lopez showed up without Anthony at the BAFTA Brits to Watch party in Los Angeles not wearing her wedding ring.

What do you think of Jennifer and Marc's decision to split? Share your thoughts in the comments.

Another year, another unbelievably action-packed Video Music Awards. As expected, viewers were treated to mind-blowing performances and several jaw-dropping surprises. The most unexpected moment came courtesy of Beyoncé Knowles, who not so subtly announced to the world that she and husband Jay-Z are expecting their first child.

When B unbuttoned her sparkly jacket and rubbed her belly with a knowing smile, after which the camera panned to a visibly elated Jay-Z and Kanye West cheering from the audience, the Nokia Theatre was bursting with warm and fuzzy well-wishes for the soon-to-be parents. And that very public moment of celebration was just the beginning.

When Beyoncé returned backstage to her dressing room, she was greeted by a team of people who enveloped the visibly happy star with hugs, cheers and congratulations.

Click for photos of Beyoncé's big VMA night.

"I'm free!" she said to one of the well-wishers, indicating that she and Jay are thrilled to not have to keep such a big secret any longer. "We're all free!" she said to the group.

A few minutes after her arrival backstage, she was joined by her husband, a very excited West (whose first words upon entering the dressing-room area were "Where is Beyoncé?" as if he could not wait to give B a huge hug) and her former Destiny's Child ladies, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams. Even with the doors to their dressing rooms closed, the applause and whoops of joy could be heard everywhere backstage.

"That was an eventful night, to say the least," Jay, still smiling, said to some of the revelers in the hallway, who continued to shower him with congratulations and hugs.

Nirvana's Big Break, With A Smashing Pumpkins Assist

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of Nevermind, band's close friend — and former MTV staffer — Amy Finnerty recalls their rise to fame.
By James Montgomery, with reporting by Vanessa WhiteWolf

Kurt Cobain
Photo: Kevin Mazur/WireImage

When Amy Finnerty first met Nirvana, she had just come to MTV to work in the Music and Programming department. Of course, she didn't let them know that fact. She was just blown away to finally meet the guys who had made her favorite album (at least at that point): Bleach.

Over the next four years, Finnerty would not only become close friends with the band, but intrinsically linked to them too. Since she was just a few years younger than the guys (not to mention a huge fan), she was one of the first people within the company to champion them — and was almost singlehandedly responsible for getting their "Smells Like Teen Spirit" on the channel. And because of all that — and the 20th anniversary of the epochal Nevermind album — MTV News sat down with Finnerty to get the inside story on the days before Nirvana became a household name and the wild (and amazing) times that followed after.

And it all started with that first meeting, backstage in New York.

"The first night I met Nirvana, I was backstage at, I think it was a Waterboys show, and the band was in New York, touring on the Bleach album, and they were being courted by a bunch of record labels, Geffen being one of them," she said. "So I'm standing around backstage, and I see Kurt Cobain leaning up against the wall, and, uh, 'Oh my God, that's Kurt from Nirvana.' And, at that point, they weren't Nirvana — I mean, they were to me, but not everybody on the planet knew who they were — but, I was terrified. I was scared to go up and introduce myself, but I did. And he said, 'How do you even know who I am?' And I said 'You're in Nirvana! I'm going to see your band at the Pyramid in a few days! You're a great, great band!'

"And he was pretty surprised, so we got to chatting and he said to me, 'Who are you? What are you doing here?' and I said, 'Oh, well, I work at MTV, whatever,' and so he screams down the hall, 'Krist, this girl works at MTV.' And it was on from that second," she laughed. "They started teasing me, making fun of me, Krist was throwing beer around, we were shaking up our beer bottles and squirting each other with beer and stuff, so, it immediately became this joke, because I really wasn't trying to tell them what I did [at MTV]. For the longest time, they referred to me as 'V.P. of Post-It Notes,' because they didn't know that I worked in Music Programming, because they would've teased me about it."

Riki Rachtman recalls Nirvana's cross-dressing appearance on "Headbangers Ball."

Of course, in the months that followed, the hype around the band (and their then-forthcoming album Nevermind) began to swirl, and once Finnerty heard what they guys had been working on with producer Butch Vig, she knew big things were on the horizon.

"The first time I listened to the record, it was like, when you're on vacation and you see something really beautiful that you've never seen before and you open your eyes up super-wide, because you want to get the memory ingrained into your brain, and that's the way I felt," she said. "I was trying to remember every single note."

Still, convincing the folks at MTV to take a chance on the band proved a lot tougher than she'd imagined. After all, she was young, and the band was virtually unknown outside of a few hip enclaves around the country. But that all changed the second she saw the "Smells Like Teen Spirit" video — which, in a bit of alt-rock kismet, arrived in her office at the exact moment another soon-to-be-huge band did too.

"The Smashing Pumpkins were staying at my house, and I said, 'You guys, come by MTV, give me the keys to the apartment, and then I'll bring you around the halls and introduce you to some people.' ... And so the Pumpkins came in 10 minutes after I had gotten my hands on that music video, and so we went into my office to watch it, and everyone thought it was incredible," Finnerty said. "So I took the video and I walked around the halls at MTV and simultaneously introduced a bunch of people to the Smashing Pumpkins, and then we'd watch the video ... and then we'd go to a producer's office and I'd say, 'These are the Smashing Pumpkins, and the Gish record that just came out is so incredible, and they're going to send us a video. Oh, and by the way, we've got this Nirvana video; you have to check it out.' "

Nirvana's rise to fame, in their own words.

After Finnerty showed a few folks within the building "Smells Like Teen Spirit," she brought it to MTV's music meeting, where the fates of new videos were decided. After some healthy back-and-forth, it was determined that "Spirit" would be given a world premiere during MTV's "120 Minutes" (with rotation on the channel to begin the following week). It was a sink-or-swim moment for the band and as you're probably aware, things worked out pretty well.

"That was unprecedented; MTV, as far as I know, had never world-premiered a video for a band that they had no history with," Finnerty explained. "And then ... some of the crew and a lot of the people that were on the road with the band came over to my house that Sunday night, and we all sat up waiting for this world premiere, and, like, I took pictures of it. It was a big moment!"

It was just the first of many for the band and their friend. But for all the highlights, perhaps none illustrates Nirvana's scruffy charm quite like a story Finnerty told us about a party she threw for the band at her New York City apartment. Twenty years later, it's one she's still amazed by — sort of like the band she helped become huge ("in some small way," she cautioned) just by believing.

"So Nirvana played in New York, and I had decided to have a party at my apartment afterwards ... and the band came, and I think [the Pixies'] Kim Deal was there, and then there were just a host of other people that I had no idea who they were. And I leaned over to Kurt and I was like, 'Are these your friends? Do you know any of these people?' And he was like, 'I don't know any of these people ... do you want me to get them to leave?' " she recalled. "So he said, 'I'm going to walk out, I'm going to go downstairs and hide under the stairs, and everyone's going to leave. Watch.' And so he walked out, and, you know, you could see everyone trying to act casual, but they all saw him leave, and then it was like a mass exodus; within 10 minutes my apartment was cleared.

"And then he came back up and got me and told me that we were going to go listen to the best jukebox in town, and I thought I was going to have this unbelievable night of listening to some hidden punk rock on some cool jukebox in New York, right?" she continued. "But instead he took me to the 119 Bar, which, at the time, had a jukebox that only played disco music. And so we danced to Donna Summer, and then we went home. It was a pretty amazing night."

Stick with MTV News all week as we reveal the Nevermind You Never Knew, celebrating the 20th anniversary of Nirvana's definitive album with classic footage, new interviews and much more.

Eminem Tops Britney Spears In Nail-Biting Song Of Summer Race

Bad Meets Evil's 'Lighters,' featuring Bruno Mars, ekes past 'I Wanna Go' in MTV News poll.

It was a contentious showdown, but after many lead changes, Bad Meets Evil's "Lighters," featuring Bruno Mars, bested Britney Spears' "I Wanna Go" to take MTV News' Song of Summer crown.

Nearly a half-million votes were cast, though a vast majority (327,679) of those were split almost evenly between Royce Da 5'9" and Eminem's joint project and Spears. Fan groups rallied behind their respective favorites, leading to a lot of back-and-forth over the past few days, but "Lighters" ultimately came out ahead when polls closed earlier Wednesday (September 7), taking 38.2 percent of the tally with 167,202 votes. The track has turned into a summer sleeper hit for Em, Royce and Mars. It is currently holding strong at #4, its peak position so far, on the Billboard Hot 100, 11 weeks after debuting on the chart.

Spears' "I Wanna Go" — the third Billboard top 10 hit from Femme Fatale — trailed with just over 36.6 percent. If Spears is less than pleased with coming in second, she can take comfort in knowing that her 160,477 votes put her way ahead of her nearest competitor, Lady Gaga, by well over 100,000 votes.

Taking 11.91 percent of the poll, Gaga's "The Edge of Glory" came in third with 52,126 votes. The only other song to pull down a sizable number of votes was Rihanna's "S&M," a track released in late spring that topped the charts early this summer, which garnered 34,681 votes for 7.92 percent of the tally.

Interestingly, many of the summer's biggest chart hits found themselves without much love in our Newsroom poll. Among the songs that reached #1 on the Billboard singles chart but found themselves with fractional percentages of the vote here were Katy Perry's history-making "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" with just 1.26 percent, Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" (0.33 percent), LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem" (0.71 percent) and this week's Hot 100 #1, Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera's "Moves Like Jagger" (0.98 percent).

Radio hits from Pitbull and Nicki Minaj also missed the boat with 3,090 votes (0.71 percent) and 1,655 votes (0.38 percent), respectively, for "Give Me Everything" and "Super Bass," while "Dirty Dancer" by Enrique Iglesias featuring Usher and Lil Wayne took 0.28 percent and "Otis" from Throne duo Jay-Z and Kanye West scored just 0.12 percent (or 524 votes).

The numbers for mainstream artists like Perry, Minaj and West were fairly similar to those accrued by lower-profile acts Foster the People, Cobra Starship and David Guetta. Foster's "Pumped Up Kicks" earned the band 0.14 percent of our poll, with slightly bigger numbers falling to Cobra's "You Make Me Feel" (0.25) and Guetta's "Where Them Girls At" (0.16).

Our friends at VH1 conducted their own scientific survey of top summer songs. You might be surprised what they chose.

Jennifer Lopez And Marc Anthony: A Timeline

Superstar couple first met in the late 1990s.
By Gil Kaufman

Kim Kardashian's VMA Highlight: Beyonce's Big News

'It was really cool of her to come out and show that at the VMAs, 'cause music is her outlet,' newlywed says.
By Kelley L. Carter

Kim Kardashian rushed back from her honeymoon this weekend and made it to the Nokia Theatre in time to present Best Male Video at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards. But her favorite highlight of the evening was the same as many of us viewing from home: getting the Beyoncé pregnancy news!

The newlywed talked with MTV News' Jim Cantiello after the show and said that she loved seeing the pop star pat her pregnant belly onstage after running through a high-energy performance of her track "Love on Top."

At the beginning of her performance, Beyoncé emerged from the darkness, saying, "Tonight I want you to stand up on your feet. I want you to feel the love that's growing inside of me!"

Beyoncé and Jay-Z celebrate their big news backstage.

Married to hip-hop superstar Jay-Z for three years, the star has said time and time again that she planned on having a baby by the time she was 30, and she turns 30 on Sunday. Her husband beamed at the end of her performance while pal and collaborator Kanye West congratulated him.

None of that excitement was lost on Kardashian.

"Beyoncé is definitely my highlight," Kardashian said. "I adore her anyway, but it was so sweet. I thought it was really cool of her to come out and show that at the VMAs, 'cause music is her outlet. She could have done it with any magazine or news station, but she chose her home. I thought it was really cool."

And speaking of having babies, that's exactly what Kardashian said she'd be doing right now if she weren't busy with her ever-rising career.

"I would be a mom right now, for sure," she said, in response to a question from fans. "I love kids, and I would probably have done this a lot sooner."

The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards have wrapped, but the real action is just getting started! Stick with MTV News for winners, fashion pics, video and behind-the-scenes stories about everything that went down. Visit VMA.MTV.com for the latest.

Lady Gaga Recalls 'Jet Black' Sky On September 11

MTV parent company Viacom recruits Gaga, DJ Pauly D, Nas and others to answer 'What will you do to remember?'
By Jocelyn Vena, with additional reporting by Christina Garibaldi

As many Americans reflect on the events of September 11, with the upcoming the 10th anniversary of the terror attacks, MTV parent company Viacom has teamed with artists including Lady Gaga, Nas, DJ Pauly D, Julianne Hough and Drake Bell to launch a national day of service campaign that asks, "What will you do to remember?"

Gaga, a native New Yorker, recently remembered where she was and what she was doing when it all happened. "On September 11, I was at school with my girlfriends," she recalled of the day that forever changed her home city.

"I just remember that the history teachers had us all piled into one room and had a television on and none of us believed it was happening," she continued. "So we didn't believe it, so we ran up to the roof and I just remember we got up to the roof, and one tower had already fallen and we all watched the second tower fall all together."

While Gaga was not anywhere near the actual site of the attack in downtown Manhattan, her mother was near it. "I don't know; you really can't describe something like that," she said. "It's too horrific. We were in disbelief. I still think sometimes I'm in disbelief.

"My dad picked us up, we couldn't reach my mom for a long time because she worked right across the street," she continued. "We were really nervous and I just remember all we saw were these young men, really young. You could tell they worked on the floor at the stock and they were in their jackets and they were just covered in ashes and all you could see was the lines from the tears on their face. [My school] was miles and miles away, but the sky that hovered above us was jet black."

Through Sunday, Viacom's networks will air specially produced "I Will" public service announcements featuring artists and actors, including Gaga, Fran Drescher, Pauly D, Nas, Hough and Bell, along with Viacom employees.

The multiplatform public service campaign is designed to inspire Americans to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the attacks by committing to good deeds, charity or volunteer service. Working with MyGoodDeed and HandsOn Network, organizers of this year's September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, the "I Will" campaign asks participants, "Ten years later, what will you do to remember?"

"Every year on September 11 with my family, we take a moment together and acknowledge a tremendous loss in our city and in the world," Gaga said. "I remember so many friends that lost family and so many people that lives were changed forever.

"It's a moment to honor New York," she continued. "It's a moment to come together and realize that New York really is forever changed and will always now be a family."

Ashton Kutcher On 'Two And A Half Men': How'd He Do?

After Monday night debut, TV critics mostly agree Kutcher 'fit in' pretty well on Charlie Sheen's old CBS sitcom.
By Eric Ditzian

In the end, not much had changed. After the tiger blood and the smack talk and the recasting and the months of speculation, the first episode of the new season of "Two and a Half Men" ended like so many had before: with a rich dude bedding two ladies while Jon Cryer's Alan sobbed himself to sleep.

And that's the real (and really kind of surprising) takeaway from Monday night's premiere: nothing's changed. Ashton Kutcher may have joined the cast, but the same collection of writers is still churning out jokes about threesomes, venereal diseases and flatulence. This sort of stuff, delivered in the guise of family-oriented primetime entertainment, either tickles your funny bone or it does not. Charlie Sheen's absence, as strange as it is to say and as large as his character's death loomed during the premiere, is almost beside the point.

And that made Kutcher's job all the easier as he slipped seamlessly into the familiar sitcom yuks. The morning after, TV critics are largely in agreement: The guy did pretty well. He hasn't remade the show in his own outsize image, but that surely was never creator Chuck Lorre's intention. Instead, Kutcher's debut assured the pop-culture universe that "Two and a Half Men" will continue to thrive (the premiere drew an astonishing 27.7 million viewers). Whether that's a good thing or not, though, is a question on which not everyone agrees.

Brilliant or Blah? Vote now on how Ashton fared last night.

The Character
"Kutcher's new character, Walden Schmidt, seems like a carefully drawn alternate universe caricature of Charlie Harper. Foremost that beard — something Charlie would never have had. The klutzy gentle persona. The utter cluelessness, about women or other people's motives. He stumbles into good fortune without even knowing — his billion; the women at the bar who were charmed by his destitution and loyalty to his ex. Mostly, he appears loyal to one woman — the woman who ditched him (played a bit later by Judy Greer.)" — Verne Day, Newsday

The Comparison
"Kutcher's performance was good, nearly as poker-faced fine as Sheen's was. (Beware of the impending revisionism that Kutcher is superior to Sheen as a comic actor — Sheen really had a knack for this gig, and was a generous reactor to Cryer. Kutcher will probably prove just as skilled.)" — Ken Tucker, Entertainment Weekly

The Long-Term
"Is there as much humor to be mined from a goofy, well-endowed billionaire as there was from a not-as-wealthy jingle writer who seemed to satisfy women just as easily? Early indicators suggest no, seeing as the sitcom already and quickly played the 'Look, He Accidentally Bedded Two Hotties At Once While Alan Lay Weeping and [BLEEP]ing' card." — Matt Webb Mitovich, TVLine.com

The Final Word
"Kutcher showed for years on 'That '70s Show' that the multi-camera sitcom format is an arena he can thrive in, and he seemed fine in his half of the episode. He's not going to transform 'Men' into a show I want to watch, but he fit in very well." — Alan Sepinwall, HitFix.com

Taylor Swift Gives Fans Front-Row Seat In 'Sparks Fly' Video

Clip includes footage from Swift's Speak Now Tour, which just surpassed Paul McCartney's summer tour for most tickets sold.

Were you not able to get a ticket for Taylor Swift's impressive Speak Now Tour? No problem — Taylor's got your back. In her just released video for "Sparks Fly," the singer is giving fans a front-row seat to her show.

The video, directed by Christian Lamb, uses footage shot over a number dates on her summer tour and perfectly encapsulates the tour's high-octane energy including theatrical set changes, dancers, aerialists, fireworks, pyrotechnics, costume changes and the occasional rainstorm.

Word about all of those exciting elements must have spread, since Swift has managed to bump Paul McCartney from the top spot of July's TicketsNow Entertainment Index, according to EW.com. Her tour accounted for more than 6 percent of concert tickets sold via TicketsNow in July, meaning it beat out McCartney's On the Run Tour, which completed its run last week.

With Swift and McCartney sitting at the #1 and #2 spots respectively, the top five included Katy Perry's California Dreams Tour at #3, Lil Wayne's I Am Still Music Tour at #4 and U2's just-wrapped two-year run of their 360 Tour at #5. Swift will be on the road through November, playing dates all across North America before ending up in New York for two sold-out dates, closing out the arena tour.

Much like the video is a thank-you letter to her fans, the tour also served as a way for Swift to show some love to her loyal followers. "We get to have such groovy, cool stuff happening," she said about the over-the-top elements of the show. "I've never had pyro before. I've never had aerialists before. It's got this grand staircase. The stage in itself looks like an old-world theater. I can't believe we get to play stadiums. I'm so excited about this tour. I want to live on that stage. I hope people leave the concert feeling like they know you better."

Lady Gaga Describes Her Love For New York On 9/11 Anniversary

Recalling the day she watched the towers fall, Gaga calls NYC 'the husband I never married.'
By Jocelyn Vena

Lady Gaga is one of the many New Yorkers who were affected personally by the terror attacks on September 11. The pop star was in high school in Manhattan the day it happened, and 10 years later, she still tears up when remembering the intense emotions she felt as she watched the Twin Towers fall.

"I mean, there's so many stories that people don't know," she told MTV during her intimate chat for her special "Inside the Outside," which was taped the day after Osama bin Laden was killed and 9/11 was on everyone's mind. "I watched the towers fall from the roof of my school, holding all my best friends. I don't know ... just, my affinity and my love and the relationship I have with New York City — it's like the husband I never married."

MTV parent company Viacom has teamed up with MyGoodDeed and HandsOn Network, organizers of this year's September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, and with artists including Lady Gaga, Nas, DJ Pauly D, Julianne Hough and Drake Bell to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the attacks by asking, "What will you do to remember?"

In her documentary interview, Gaga spoke often about her love for her hometown, sharing that she has one very personal way of connecting with the Big Apple. Gesturing the jacket she wore, she said, "Well, this is how I get home; my leather jacket's like my Dorothy slippers. ... That's why I changed when we sat down. You said, 'I want to ask you about New York,' and I said, 'You'd better get my leather.' I wrote so many songs on this new album [Born This Way] about New York City. I mean, every song on all my albums has some relationship to New York City, but one in particular 'Marry the Night,' that record is about my husband, New York."

Through Sunday, Viacom's networks will air specially produced "I Will" public service announcements featuring artists and actors, along with Viacom employees.

The multiplatform public service campaign is designed to inspire Americans to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the attacks by committing to good deeds, charity or volunteer service.
